Built almost a century ago, Moljoks House is not just another charming Ladakhi retreat. It is the mascot of the Moljoks family, treasurer of traditions and stories passed over generations, and protector of the household’s legacy as an important trading family that gently built and supported the village of Saspol and its inhabitants by providing food and shelter.
Converted in 2018 by Welsh conservator architect, John Harrison, Moljoks House marries the best of two worlds — Ladakhi traditions and modern comforts of today – to provide an ethereal living experience to people across the world. Nestled on a hillside, the home provides a panoramic vista of stark mountains against the tranquil clear green of the river that flows down just below.

SIMPLICITY REDISCOVERED

Moljoks House follows in the footpaths of its humble residents — to live a life of simplicity and provide warm hospitality and friendship. You will find these qualities in every part of our home, from exquisitely-cooked quality fare to the minimalist but comfortable decor of our rooms and of course in the smiles of our staff. We cannot wait to meet you and introduce you to our way of living!

THE MOLJOKS EXPERIENCE
Moljoks House has been restored to create an eco-resort that provides an ideal culmination of activities and rest and relaxation. Trekking Himalayan paths, exploring the monasteries, stupas and the Saspol caves or simply lazying with a book in the orchard to recharge your batteries — there is no dearth of things to do at The Moljoks House.
The idea to establish Moljoks House as an eco-retreat is inspired from a Sarai (a halting place build for travellers) the family had built many years ago. The Sarai had rooms for people and stables for their livestock. Moljoks keeps this tradition alive to some extent today, by allowing guests to bring their pets.
